Testing, testing, 1,2,3...
Just some technical difficulties. Tried to photograph and upload a photo of my daily art today. Also tried yesterday. Didn't quite work as I hoped. I don't have a fancy iphone but was hoping it would work with my phone.
Anyway, I am away from my scanner and computer til tomorrow. Will upload yesterday's, today's and tomorrow's daily art, all book covers.
"Air Five" for today:
1-watching it snow (hopefully for the last time)
2-thinking of spring
3-getting organized
4-wearing my multicolored sneakers even though I never worked out
5-sketching sketching sketching

Daily Ode 17
Some quick studies/sketches in paint and pencil. A partial ode to childhood. I'll be adding some pop culture items in my daily work. But, a lot of it will be some of my own children's book style work. I like working on both.
Tomorrow is the start of a new continuing theme all year. Maybe once a week? Daily (or 'every other day') Ode to books.
for today:
1-chewable vitamins making me feel like a kid but they are basic circle shapes and not the 'Flinstone' brand I used to have growing up.
2-appreciating the color aqua
3-the clickety clack sound of my thrifted typewriter
4-watching the classic The Color Purple ... and will admit to needing some tissues. I hadn't seen it in years, but the ending, always gets to me.
5-lemon scented dust cloths in use while organizing my studio space.

A fortune cookie, butterfly dish and a dash of painting mayhem...
daily ode no. 14
Your fortune reads "There is a prospect of a thrilling time ahead for you." |
Air Five: "The motion of High-Fiving given by two people from a distance" |
1-the sound of ginger ale on ice and the clinking of ice swishing around the glass
2-lovely thrifted ceramic butterfly dish from a wonderful vintage seller with a few dings and scrapes around the edges.
3-thinking of the stories behind the dings and scrapes and places it's been.
4-fun fortune cookie messages, even especially the random ones
5-the glorious color combination of blue and orange

Air 5
daily ode no. 13 was a sketch. A mini logo for a new section here on the site. My top 5 things that were highlights of the day. Like a "gratitude" journal but not as serious sounding.
My air five for today was...
1-my baby nephew who loves music & rocks out anytime he hears it.
2-the sound of walking on snow.
3-tissues with lotion for my (hopefully) ending soon cold.
4-warm (not scalding) raspberry tea with honey
5-drawing w/my number2 pencil & handlettering.

Day 9
The phone above was used as a prop. I wonder how many people own them anymore. Maybe businesses? Some of my moleskine sketchbooks. I currently have one in red. |

Day 8 ... sweet louise
One of my first assignments when I was a freelance photographer was of a local university's move-in day and the start of the fall semester. I was supposed to walk around between photographing events and take pictures of students for the school to use in their catalog, postcards and website.
The one student above was waiting for a friend to finish eating. They were going to practice basketball before basketball practice. He didn't see the humor. Not many people see my humor though. So, I continued and asked him about his tattoo hidden by his awesomely yellow arm band. He pushed the band to his wrist and said, "Sweet Louise, you mean?"
Without even asking he told me Sweet Louise was his grandmother. She was never called Louise without the sweet in front of it. The woman who raised him and the reason he was in college. She passed away and he wanted to take her to school with him somehow, ... "at least in ink" he said.
The Hallmark card moment was soon broken. Before I could get fully teary eyed his friend yelled over, "Keg party tonight, BooYah!"
Let's hope Sweet Louise didn't hear that.

Day 5 ... in the sketch phase
This first week of daily art is all about doodling, sketching, drawing, making marks on a piece of paper, not worrying about the result.

Day 4 ... sketchbook characters
I opened my sketchbook and after a few scribbles here and there met...
Mr. Turquoise Teal who is fond of turtlenecks, table tennis, top hats (his is at the dry cleaners) and timeless tunes.
The second person was in a hurry and I didn't catch their name.
On the third page I found Mademoiselle Papillon and a small friend of hers.
